IOM inter-club races
« on: September 18, 2006, 12:10:41 PM »
NMMS would like to extend and invitation to all local Auckland IOM sailors to enter and support the first round of the tri-club series to start on the 1st October at Manurewa (wattle-farm) approx 11am. This is just a one day event, the points will be awarded to the top placed finishers from each club. details of this explained on the day. Please note this is very low key and is mostly about fun racing, so come and help make it just that.  Regards Alec

I'm going to jump in here before anyone else and say that I am sure this doesn't mean skippers from outside of the greater Auckland area can't enter!!!

Yes Alan, as all should know we are only too pleased to welcome anyone sailing at wattle farm, the idea behind the inter-club contest is to stimulate more inter-action between the clubs and build up numbers sailing in both Auckland and or any area, alas it seems our club is loosing sailing members faster than we can recruit them, having a few extra boats sailing in the wattle farm pond might make a sight which encourages others to join in. So yes all are welcome any and all the time, not just on the 1st of October. Alec

Thanks for the invitation Alec. As you are probably aware we have a growing fleet of IOM's at Gulf Harbour ( Last week on our 3 club days we had between 9 & 12 on the lake each day). We will make sure as many as possible make it along on 1st October.
Many of our skippers are new to the class and will not have visited Wattle Farm so details on how to get there from the motorway would be a big help.
Also the matter of frequencies is starting to become a major problem. do you have a plan in place to cope with any clashes?

I have put up a road map on the club web site for future reference
http://www.magicksails.com/Club1.html
as for frequency numbers I trust most sailors, even the new guys have got at least one spare number they could change to, and i'm sure fellow competitors would be willing to lend-swap if we have a conflict as is usual at most contests. I am trying to save our overworked secretary the job of taking formal entries by making it an on the day thing and I'm sure we can work it out when the time comes. He says putting on his bullet proof vest. Alec

Thanks for that Alec, The map is great - just one small problem that I am sure will resolve its self on arrival - can't see Wattle Farm road shown, or is it just that my eyes are failing me.
The format for the day was discussed by a few of us at Regency Lake this afternoon, and there were a few different thoughts that you may like to consider.
I believe the suggestion was for an inter-club team competition, with the number of boats in each club team determined by the club represented by the least number of boats on the day. This option was thought to present a few problems as a club with several entries would then be in the position of having to "select" a team.
I am very much in favour of the concept of a "fun" day to promote our sport/hobby with all participants on the day included. Maybe a simple points system in operation for the day with overall placings declared for the day, then this concept could then be carried on to the next Inter-club day and so on with maybe series placings decided after a visit to each club was completed.
If you wanted a Club result you could accumulate the points of say the top 4-6 boats from each club over the series to decide final Club placings

In answer To the frequencySituation at the upcoming interclub competition. If every body has had there boat registered frequencys shouldnt be a problem our club NMMS and the NSRYS worked together in allocating each member with there personal frequency this has worked brilliantly for us over x amount of years. points and team racing
« Reply #8 on: September 19, 2006, 08:40:30 PM »
Just a quick note as I don't want this to become too complex for a fun days racing, but there should not be a need to name a team as such as I thought the first boat or boats across the line for each team would be noted and it does not matter if it's a different skipper or boat that is a points scorer in each race, in other words if say 4 boats from each club are going to be given points its the first four from each club in each race that count, not a particular boat or skipper if you catch my drift? As far as the map goes Jimmy, yes wattle farm road is clearly marked, so be careful when asking for buoy room next race day Jim. cheers alec

Hi Alec
Thanks for an enjoyable day on Sunday. Pity about the weather in the afternoon.
Do you have any results that could be posted here or on NMMS website?
