Ever had that sinking feeling, you know when things are just not going your way and there seems as if a downward spiral is in effect?
Picture a beautiful Sunday, sun shining,5 or 6 knots of steady breeze, fabulous clear blue and fresh water.
You get out your prized IOM and rig it up with your best sails, reinstall your flash digital reciever and smart winch.Put her in the water and start tuning.
Finally you get her hunting up in the lifts and off in the knocks with minimal input and your really enjoying the way the water is peeling off the bow ,smiles.
Then,
Tack back to shore,50m away is far enough today, push the control lever
pull the control lever
Lift the remote up above your head.............NOTHING.
Boat is now sailing away at about the fastest you've ever seen it go.The next land fall is the other side of the lake....40 km away...this is Taupo!
PANIC
Rush around getting dingy organised, motor on and we're away in pursuit. The boat is just a small white dot in the far distance now.
Chase as fast as the sh*****ty little out board will go.Don't seem to be making any impression distance wise.
Now the air is as blue as the water and your glad your mother is not within earshot.

You finally get to where you think the boat should be..NO...nowhere in sight...

Search for a while but have to give up as fuel, which you didnt check before making chase,is running low...thank god for oars although its a loooooooooong way back to shore.
Why is the motor surging...ok feul is gone.
Start rowing.
Then a silver lining as a nice big Nolex 30 comes sailing out of the middle of the lake.
Hail them and get offerd a lift...accepted with gratitude...even handed a cold beer as your climbing aboard.
The new owner happily sails around for an hour or more searching for your wayward IOM...no luck.
Now comes the really good bit...No the boat has not been found...dealing with the insurance company....hope its covered by contents...only time will tell.
So thats how the first day of daylight saving went for me.
